What can we help with?

If you are a child or young person who has been missing from home or care we will offer to visit you. We will…

  • Listen to you
  • Find out if we can help or support you
  • Speak to someone else on your behalf if you want us to
  • Help you to get support from elsewhere

Children and young people run away from home/care or are forced to leave for a variety of reasons including…

  • Arguments
  • Relationship or family problems
  • Something has happened which has upset you and you don’t know who top talk to
  • Bullying
  • Abuse
  • Problems at school

Running away can be dangerous!

You could be cold, hungry and in danger from other people. Some of the problems you might face are…

  • Nowhere safe to sleep or rest
  • No food or clean water
  • Being at risk from dangerous or abusive people
  • Getting sick
  • Having no money
  • Being attacked or having your belongings stolen from you
  • Getting involved in crime
  • Feeling depressed

I feel like running away, what can I do?

If you are feeling unhappy or are being hurt by someone, running away will not always make things better.

If you can talk to someone about how you feel such as a parent/carer, or a social worker or teacher, they can help you find a way to solve your problem without you running away. If you want to you can call us and we will come and see you.

You can ring us on (01482) 396828 (office is open Monday to Friday 9-5, but you can leave a message outside these times) or email us at rights4u@eastriding.gov.uk
